Board approves easement for Atlantic Broadband shelter node expansion on county property

County staff presented a request to update an existing easement allowing Atlantic Broadband (MVC Communities Corporation) to expand a fiber “shelter node” located behind the agricultural building and county water tank. The county had previously granted an easement for the node; the current request updates that agreement to accommodate two additional shelter buildings adjacent to the existing 12‑by‑20 foot shelter.
Staff explained that the node is a segment of backbone fiber that serves local internet providers; the proposed expansion would support regional network capacity. The county attorney and staff reviewed a draft easement and a preliminary layout; staff recommended that the board approve the updated easement.
A supervisor moved and seconded approval of the easement; the board voted in favor and authorized execution of the updated easement agreement. Staff said the county will not construct buildings on the site but will grant the easement for the telecommunications equipment to be installed and maintained by the provider.
No public objections were recorded during the board discussion and no additional conditions were added to the easement during the meeting.
