Oldsmar honored for post‑hurricane relief program with Florida Municipal Achievement Award

The City of Oldsmar accepted the 2025 Florida Municipal Achievement Award in the Local Action category on Aug. 19 for the Oldsmar Support Services Alliance, a public‑private disaster relief effort coordinated after the 2024 hurricane season.

The award recognizes a single citywide effort that addressed a local need. Erin Alcorn, member services administrator for the Florida League of Cities, presented the trophy and said the program was chosen because it “successfully addresses a local need” by consolidating local nonprofits, churches, businesses and volunteers into a single response effort.

The alliance focused on three areas: communication, coordination and support. According to the presentation, the alliance mobilized more than 430 volunteers, served nearly 12,000 meals and provided direct support to nearly 5,000 households after the 2024 storms. The program was adopted into the city’s emergency operations plan as a model for future responses.

Erin Alcorn told the council the award also includes publicity through the Florida League of Cities’ website, Quality Cities magazine and a webinar series. “It is my honor tonight to present you with the 2025 Florida Municipal Achievement Award in the local action category. Congratulations,” Alcorn said.

Mayor and council members posed for photos after the presentation. No formal council vote was required; the presentation was ceremonial and informational.

The city clerk’s office will have materials about the award and the alliance available to the public, and staff indicated the alliance’s structure is scalable for other municipalities.

For residents, the award highlights the city’s post‑storm coordination model; council members and staff said they view the program as a template for future emergency response work.
