Commission names Arts ad hoc, arts leaders preview Mural Festival opening Sept. 12

The commission established a City Commission ad‑hoc interview committee to recommend one appointment to the Traverse City Arts Commission; the committee members named were Mai Stanley, Mitch Treadwell and Heather Shaw, with Shaw appointed chair. The commission approved the ad hoc and scheduled follow‑up interviews per the new appointment policy. Arts Commission members told the commission and public that the Mural Festival will run Sept. 12–17. The festival opening is Friday, Sept. 12 at Common Ground; Sept. 14 will be a public tour day, and the closing parade is scheduled the following Wednesday starting at Orellana at 4 p.m. The Arts Commission highlighted community programming including children's activities at the library, Old Town Playhouse chalk events and artist meet‑and‑greets. Commissioners encouraged attendance and noted the commission’s social channels are sharing artist profiles in advance.
