Commission confirms advisory appointments and reestablishes Brown Bridge Trust Fund ad hoc committee

At the May 5 meeting the City Commission approved several advisory board appointments and reconvened an ad hoc committee related to the Brown Bridge Trust Fund ballot proposal.
The commission reappointed Jackie Shinders to the Historic District Commission for a term expiring June 30, 2028. It reappointed Merrick Roman and Jeff Cockfield to the Zoning Board of Appeals through June 30, 2028. The commission also appointed Josh (Brian Michael Rates shown in materials) to the Traverse City Arts Commission to fill a vacancy through May 18, 2027.
Additionally, the commission reestablished the Brown Bridge Trust Fund ad hoc committee for six months, through Nov. 18, 2025, with Commissioners Tim Warner (chair), Heather Shaw and Mitchell Treadwell serving. The committee will continue outreach and development of a list of priority park investments should the commission decide to place a ballot proposal before voters.
Commissioners thanked ad hoc members for their work to date and noted that continued public outreach and a clear list of proposed projects will be required if the committee recommends a ballot referral.
