Commission adopts permanent no‑parking order for Madison Street (West side)

The City Commission on May 19 permanently adopted traffic control order (TCO) 722, prohibiting parking on the west side of Madison Street between Front and Wayne Street.
City Engineer Anne Pagano explained the Madison Street improvement project was constructed in 2023 following a public process and that no‑parking signs were installed on the west side of the street to accommodate neighborhood preferences for single‑side parking, reduce impervious surface, and provide traffic calming through narrower pavement. The TCO had remained informal; staff recommended formal adoption so enforcement could proceed.
Deb Allen, assistant city manager and chair of the traffic committee, described the item as a “cleanup” to formalize an approved design feature and said staff has improved processes to bring TCOs to commission with construction contracts going forward. Sam Shore, speaking for the Slabtown Neighborhood Association, said residents and staff met repeatedly during the project and supported the no‑parking design.
Commissioner Stanley moved adoption and the commission voted to approve TCO 722.
