The Harper Woods City Council voted to approve an employment agreement appointing Kelly Guimon as the library director, following a recommendation from the library board. The library board presented Guimon, previously the library’s youth librarian, as its preferred candidate and provided an employment agreement consistent with the city’s compensation plan.
"She is currently the library's youth librarian," a library-board representative said during the item presentation, and recommended approval of the employment agreement. Councilmember (Madam) Mann moved to approve the agreement and authorize the interim city manager to sign it; the motion was seconded and passed by roll call.
In discussion, council members asked about the position’s weekly hours. Guimon’s contract lists a 37.5-hour workweek. Council members clarified city practice: "Anything over 32 hours is considered full time," a council member said, and staff explained the employment agreement includes a paid lunch, explaining why the contract lists 37.5 hours rather than 40.
Kelly Guimon introduced herself to the council and described her prior 10 months as youth librarian and work coordinating library programs, including events with local schools and the robotics team. Interim and former library staff members pledged to help Guimon onboard; council members expressed confidence in her appointment.
The resolution to approve the employment agreement passed by roll call (all members voting yes).
