Council questions timing on community center design and consulting payments; staff says renderings coming soon

During the consent agenda discussion May 5, Councilwoman Constantino asked for clarification on check number 132477, listed as payment to Third Monarch Strategies for “Michigan legislature funding year 2026.”
Acting City Manager Shamansky responded the firm was hired to help secure funding for the new community center and to build legislative partnerships. Constantino also asked when the council would see design work from Hannah Architects; she cited meeting minutes that reported the design was 71% complete and consulting 61% complete.
Shamansky said a rendering is in its final stages and “the council will see everything that they need to see, the pictures, where we are,” and indicated no additional construction payments are being withheld pending the start of construction — rather, the city is completing the necessary design and consulting steps.
The consent agenda, which included accounts-payable items and the minutes, was approved during the meeting. Council members said they expect the design presentation to be brought forward at a future meeting when the rendering is ready.
