Commission shifts welcome‑basket delivery; announces after‑school classes and summer camps success

Commission member Marissa said the Recreation Commission will change how it delivers welcome baskets to new residents after a pilot phase revealed missed connections when volunteers left baskets at vacant or under‑construction homes.
"So what we're going to do is shift it...All you have to do is call, the number, and we will either deliver the basket to you or meet you at the recreation department for you to be able to pick it up," Marissa said. She said the program will accept requests from residents who have moved to the island within the past six months and that outreach will include flyers, social media posts and notices at Township Hall.
Marissa said the commission will continue coordinating with local businesses and organizations to source basket items. She asked that the township e‑newsletter include a paragraph about the program to boost awareness.
Director Zade reported summer camps ended with "great numbers and a lot of happy campers," thanking counselors, an art instructor and the Grove Hill Nature and Land Conservancy for their support. The commission also announced three new after‑school classes: a running club (third through fifth grade, $100 per child, practices Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m., includes five meets and a jersey), a Swift Club at the elementary school, and a reader's theater program for second through fifth graders. Staff said class registration is available on the recreation website.
