DDA to complete Michigan Main Street scorecard; staff reports roughly $272,000 spent on Art on the Isle over three years

The Downtown Development Authority discussed enrolling in the Michigan Main Street program and asked board members to complete the online training modules and the program’s scorecard before the next meeting if they want the DDA to participate.
Ross asked members to complete the scorecard and send their individual submissions in advance so staff could average results and present them at the next meeting. “If we are still interested in being a part of the program,” Ross said, “once we get that scorecard, then I send it off to them and say, hey, we wanna… be a part of this.” Several members said the training provides a useful roadmap and that the exercise would help the DDA evaluate its downtown practices.
Ross also provided a briefing on the Art on the Isle program’s finances: he said the DDA has spent about $272,000 over the past three years on art-related rentals and purchases and reported total owned assets in that program of approximately $141,500. He said a grants-tracking list would be added to future packets to show active grants, expiration dates and amounts paid to date so the board and staff can better monitor funding opportunities and deadlines.
Board members agreed to complete the scorecard modules and to rely on staff to compile and summarize submissions ahead of the next meeting.
