New volunteer with market experience joins DDA to boost farmers market

Michelle Liebrecht, a five-month resident who formerly owned and operated a monthly farmers market in Fort Wayne, Indiana, introduced herself to the Downtown Development Authority and offered to help grow the island’s market.
Liebrecht said she and her husband ran a market for four years that at its peak averaged “about 2,500 to 3,000 people” and “99 to 100 vendors” at large monthly events, and that experience informs her plans to recruit 30–40 vendors for the island market over time. “If we could get an average of maybe 30 to 40 vendors, at a time, especially starting next year… I can help really promote it and not only promote it here within our community, but get some of the outside communities as well coming in,” Liebrecht said.
She told the board she planned to work through the remainder of the current season and over the winter to promote the market and offered to coordinate with downtown businesses to drive customers to Macomb Street. Ross said he would share Liebrecht’s contact information with the board so members and local business owners could provide ideas and collaborate.
No board action was required or taken on the introduction; the item was a presentation and volunteer offer.
