The Saint Charles City Council on Monday approved three appointments to city advisory bodies, voting to place Rita Payleitner on the Planning Commission, William (Bill) Schroeder on the Zoning Board of Appeals and Steve Leffler on the Natural Resource Commission.
The council voted on each appointment by roll call. The presiding official introduced each nominee and described their qualifications before the votes. "Rita brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served on the Central City Council for 12 years from 2011 to 2023, also serving on the planning and development committee including two years as chair," the presiding official said when recommending Payleitner for the Planning Commission.
The nomination for William Schroeder noted his professional background in building and inspection services. "Bill is a public sector leader with extensive experience in building and inspection services, code enforcement and construction management," the presiding official said, adding that Schroeder currently serves as Director of Building and Inspection Services for the Village of Mount Prospect and has worked with state and national code organizations and colleges on building-code education.
For the Natural Resource Commission, the presiding official described Steve Leffler as a local business owner with relevant academic credentials. "Steve is a business owner of Suburban Tire Family Business that's been serving our community since 1982, holds a master's degree in biogeography from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and has a strong personal interest in Illinois' natural history," the presiding official said.
The council approved Payleitner's appointment by roll call with no recorded dissent. William Schroeder's nomination was moved by Alderman Petrillo and seconded by Alderman Mundt; the council approved the appointment by roll call. Steve Leffler's nomination was moved by Alderman Spellman and seconded by Alderman Weber and was also approved by roll call.
All three new appointees were congratulated by the presiding official after the votes. The terms of the appointments and start dates were not specified during the meeting.
No ordinances, budget changes or additional formal actions related to these appointments were discussed during the votes.
