Committee approves street and parking closures for 40th Scarecrow Weekend

The Government Operations Committee approved temporary street and municipal parking-lot closures for the Saint Charles Alliance’s 40th annual Scarecrow Weekend, slated Friday, Oct. 10, through Sunday, Oct. 12, the committee was told. Chief Steve Clark, acting police chief for the City of Saint Charles, told the committee the closures would be the same as recent years and listed specific streets and lots affected. “The dates of the festival this year is Friday, October 10 through Sunday, October 12,” Clark said, and described road closures on Riverside Avenue between Main Street and Illinois, closures of Fourth and Fifth streets between Main and Cedar and Cedar Street during the event, plus use of the municipal lot south of City Hall and seven additional ADA spaces in municipal lot J. Committee members voted to approve the requested closures. The committee chair called the motion, which was seconded, and the roll call approved the item. City staff said the Alliance worked with the city’s special events committee and the police department to plan the event and that temporary ADA parking arrangements would mirror past practice. No additional restrictions or differences from recent years were reported. The committee approved the request by voice/roll call and moved on to other agenda items.
