Lockport mayor announces upcoming police leadership change; successor to be placed on next agenda

The mayor announced that Police Chief Rich is exploring a job opportunity outside Lockport and that the council will put a successor nomination on a future agenda.
"First step is, is Chief Orang is, looking at greener pastures, down south in Tennessee. ... it's our job to, put a new police chief, and, put, John Arizzi down as, a successor. So looking for, a motion to put that on, agenda item for next week or next meeting," the mayor said, asking the council to place an action item on the agenda.
Council members discussed timing. Staff said Chief Rich will remain in place until July 11, and that if the successor is accepted the incoming chief would start on July 11. The mayor asked that the personnel matter be placed on the next council meeting agenda as an action item so the council can consider the appointment publicly.
No formal appointment occurred at this meeting; council members moved to place the matter on an upcoming agenda so the public would have notice and the council could act in open session.
