The Lockport City Council approved Resolution 25‑043 naming John Arizzi as successor to Police Chief Richard (Rich) Rang upon Rang’s retirement.
Councilors moved and seconded the resolution and carried the roll call vote. Staff clarified the appointment does not mean a change in command the night of the vote; the successor will assume the chief’s duties when Rang’s last day arrives on July 11.
Chief Rich Rang addressed the council and delivered prepared remarks summarizing his 26‑year career with the department, thanked staff, council and his family, and said he will step into retirement with ‘‘peace in my heart’’ and plans to spend more time with family. Council members offered gratitude and presented a gift on behalf of the council.
City staff and council noted the formal appointment paperwork was processed by resolution and that operational details — including any transition duties and ceremony scheduling — will be handled by the police department and city administration prior to July 11.
