Chief Jason Litwin presented the Kentwood Police Department’s July 2025 monthly report to the City Commission, saying the department handled 1,612 calls for service in July and 10,344 calls year to date, numbers higher than last year and above the five‑year average. Litwin reported an increase in aggravated assaults — 23 for the month and 135 year to date — noting that in most cases the suspect and victim knew one another. The department also reported two robberies for the month, 12 burglaries (seven residences, five businesses), 81 larcenies and 25 motor‑vehicle thefts, of which 22 involved Kia and Hyundai models. Drug arrests totaled 12 for the month, and there were 12 driving‑while‑intoxicated arrests.
The report highlighted traffic enforcement: officers wrote 790 citations in July compared with 527 the prior year and conducted about 1,400 traffic stops, a sharp year‑over‑year rise. At Woodland Mall, the department recorded 39 calls for service in July, down from the prior year but below the five‑year average. Chief Litwin also noted that three officers sustained minor injuries while making arrests and have returned to duty. The department’s community‑policing outreach was pictured in the report, including officers meeting a Girl Scout troop. After questions from commissioners, the commission voted to receive and file the police report.
