Committee advances Logan County Tourism Bureau funding agreement to regular agenda

The City Council Committee of the Whole on Aug. 12 reviewed a proposed funding agreement with the Logan County Tourism Bureau and agreed to place the item on the council’s regular agenda for final action.
Committee members, staff and bureau representatives said the agreement was drafted and reviewed cooperatively over several weeks. Mayor Welch said the agreement was intended to be the city’s offer and that the county’s participation is required for the agreement to remain in effect. "In the event the county ceases funding, our agreement will be terminated," Mayor Welch said during the discussion.
The committee discussed a one-year term in the city draft. Committee members said the county preferred a two-year funding commitment, but city staff recommended one year to allow time to monitor how the partnership works in practice. Molly, identified in the meeting as chairman of the Logan County Tourism Bureau, said participants had worked "a lot" on the document and she was grateful for the city's leadership in putting the agreement together.
Council members and staff noted the county had not yet voted on its version of the agreement; staff said the county had created a near-identical copy and planned to take it to its finance committee. Mayor Welch and others said county participants appeared committed to funding, but no county vote had occurred.
Committee members agreed to place the funding agreement on the regular agenda. Council staff clarified that no city payments would be made until the county completed its vote and any required approvals.
The discussion covered the timing and coordination with the county, the desired contract term, and the recommendation that the city wait to disburse funds until the county vote is complete. No formal council vote on the funding agreement was recorded at the committee meeting; the item was placed on the regular agenda for the next council meeting.
