Council approves Brownfield plan for BNP Littleford warehouse to reactivate underused industrial site

Saginaw Future and city staff told the council they support a Brownfield plan to help BNP Littleford build a 12,000-square-foot cold-storage warehouse at 622 Ortman Street. Grace Smith of Saginaw Future said the project would reactivate an underutilized property, bring warehousing back on-site, and include environmental activities that will make the site safer for workers and neighbors.
Smith described the Brownfield program as the financing mechanism that offsets extraordinary cleanup and site-preparation costs that private redevelopment alone might not absorb. She said the project strengthens the company's long-term footprint in Saginaw and builds on earlier environmental work Saginaw Future and partners did with an EPA superfund cleanup grant.
Council action: The council adopted the Brownfield resolution to include the BNP Littleford warehouse project in the city's Brownfield plan. The resolution passed by roll call (majority recorded). Staff will work with the company and the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority to finalize cleanup plans and reimbursement schedules.
Follow-up: The brownfield authority and staff will publish details of the environmental workplan, reimbursement mechanism, and construction schedule; council asked staff to ensure those governance documents are public and available for inspection.
