Council approves drainage and utility easement for property at 523 North First Street

Geneva's Committee of the Whole approved a drainage and utility easement for Parcel 12-03-227-006 at 523 North First Street on Sept. 2. Staff said that during construction of a new home the existing sanitary sewer transmission main was damaged and the builder installed a replacement main in a location that requires dedication of an easement.
Staff explained the replacement main sits roughly on top of the previous sanitary main but that the original 1942 installation never had recorded easements, so the new dedication is a corrective, housekeeping action. Council members asked for clarification on whether the repair was outside of the right-of-way; staff replied the replacement ended up outside recorded right-of-way because the original easements were not recorded.
The committee approved the easement by voice vote. Staff identified Director Babica as the department contact for follow-up questions.
