The Geneva Historic Preservation Commission approved a front porch expansion and replication at 310 South Fourth Street at its Aug. 19 meeting. Staff and the applicant said the proposed design replicates the original stoop form and maintains visual access to the historic transom and window lines from the public right of way. The proposal extends the porch approximately six inches beyond the current stoop, maintains the existing transom visibility, and uses composite decking with wood‑like columns and a matching baluster profile. The applicant said existing porch posts are likely composite and that the project will replace columns and repair steel where required. Commissioners observed the design aligns with prior feedback from concept review and noted that the proposal follows Secretary of the Interior standards and local design guidelines. A motion to approve the expansion as presented passed unanimously by roll call. The applicant said both neighbors had been informed and construction would proceed once permits were filed.
