Council approves four-year collective bargaining agreement with Geneva Professional Firefighters Local 4287

The Geneva City Council on Sept. 2 approved Resolution 2025-105, adopting a four-year collective bargaining agreement between the City of Geneva and the Geneva Professional Firefighters Association, Local 4287 (a member of the International Association of Firefighters). Staff said the successor agreement was negotiated and agreed upon by city management and union representatives.
Staff told the council that, pending approval, compensation adjustments will be applied retroactively and the city's human resources division will update the enterprise resource planning system to reflect changes including timing of personal leave, vacation carryover, and a 7(g) pay program. Other contract provisions reported by staff include changes related to the board of fire and police commissioners, arbitration procedures, creation of an apprenticeship program and changes to the promotional process.
The council approved the resolution by a 9-0 roll call. Staff did not present the full text at the dais; no alderperson proposed amendments during discussion. The approval authorizes city administrators and HR staff to implement the contract terms and to make the listed payroll adjustments retroactive as required by the agreement.
