City planning staff told the Planning Commission the department is recruiting to fill two positions — a community development technician and an administrative analyst — and is conducting demonstrations of permit-tracking software to provide online permitting and application-tracking for residents and developers.
Staff said the demonstrations are part of a broader effort to modernize permit intake and customer service; the software would allow applicants to track review steps and submit permit applications online. Staff also listed several active development prospects in town, including a proposed 112-unit project near Teague Park, interest from a major homebuilder on parcels near Santa Paula Creek, multiple ministerial ADU and small infill proposals, and an annexed 54-acre industrial park at the end of Faulkner Road that staff said could expand job opportunities and extend Faulkner through the industrial area.
Commissioners and staff also noted recent and near-term infrastructure work — street repaving, a new park opening and planned intersection improvements at Hallock and Highway 126 — and said ongoing capital projects will be important to accommodate new development.
