Trustees update off‑road vehicle rules; fines clarified to deter unsafe use

The Village of Homer Glen Board of Trustees approved amendments on Aug. 28, 2025 to the village ordinance that regulates off‑road motor vehicles and similar devices. Trustees said the revisions clarify that such devices are not allowed on public rights‑of‑way, on trail systems or in parkways and set or reaffirmed penalties for violators. Trustee Mason noted the ordinance is not a ban on these devices on private property but an effort to reduce unsafe operation on streets and public areas. The ordinance language cited fines for violations; meeting materials set the range for a violation at not less than $1,000 and up to $2,500 for each offense as part of the amended code language. Trustee LaPorte emphasized parental responsibility for devices operated by minors, and trustees asked staff to ensure the public understands where these devices are allowed and where they are not. The ordinance passed on a roll call vote.
