Village, Illinois attorney general to meet with Illinois American Water after billing concerns; meeting expected in August

Village Attorney reported that Illinois American Water submitted a response to the Illinois Attorney General on July 16 addressing an earlier letter the AG had sent after residents raised billing concerns in a February 2025 survey. The village and the attorney general’s office are reviewing the utility’s response.
The attorney said that, without admitting liability, Illinois American Water agreed in the spirit of cooperation to meet with the Illinois Attorney General and members of the Village Board and the mayor to discuss the billing concerns. The meeting was anticipated to take place the week of Aug. 11, though a date had not been finalized at the board meeting.
Village officials told residents who have billing questions to bring records to the village or to email a staff contact (Amanda List) listed on the village website for assistance and tracking.
Outcome: No board action taken; the village is participating in a coordinated review with the Illinois Attorney General and awaiting a confirmed meeting date.
