Trustees told the board they attended a Will County Emergency Management Agency workshop that covered NIMS, ICS, disaster assistance and grant processes; they said training clarified elected officials’ roles in emergency response and recovery planning.
Several Village of Homer Glen trustees reported on May 20 that they attended an emergency‑management workshop hosted by the Will County Emergency Management Agency and organized by the village Emergency Management director, Ron Cuss.
Trustee Nick Mueller said the workshop “was an eye opener” and thanked Ron Cuss for organizing the session. Trustee Reinders and Trustee Mason said the course reviewed the chain of command, the National Incident Management System (NIMS), the Incident Command System (ICS), logistics planning, finance and resource prioritization, and how to request state resources and disaster assistance. Trustee Mason noted the village’s public officials had not participated in the training for about 20 years and said the session improved officials’ understanding of roles and responsibilities in an emergency.
Trustees encouraged other officials and residents to take similar training and said the village will continue to integrate lessons from the course into local emergency planning and grant‑seeking efforts.
