The village attorney said the bill was a repackaged version of earlier legislation concerning 140 Third Street and that it was “held up in the Senate Committee.” He commended Mayor Neitzke Trojke for engaging with legislators in Springfield and said the mayor’s efforts were “integral in having this bill held up so that all parties could try to reach a better resolution.”
Attorney and staff reported that Mayor and village manager authorized Brett Westcott to direct H&RG (H and R Green) to begin a traffic study “forthwith” to show traffic patterns and volumes on the corridor between Bell Road and Lamont Road. The attorney said the study is intended to demonstrate whether a five‑lane expansion is warranted.
During public comment, Heidi Pasella noted that Will County’s Public Works and Transportation Committee will consider 140 Third Street at a July 1 meeting and said residents can attend or submit comments in advance. Village Manager Joe Baber said the village has had continued communications with the county and will update the board as developments occur.
The traffic study and continued coordination with county and state officials are the next steps; no final land-use decision occurred at the meeting.
