Public works staff said the current sweeper fleet has deteriorated and the department had previously deferred replacement. The new machine had been planned in an equipment schedule but was advanced to the current year after ambulance procurement timing shifted. Staff said the new sweeper is expected to include warranty coverage and emphasized the importance of proper wash and maintenance facilities; staff described plans to remove an old cold‑storage building and create a block wash area and a nearby hydrant to facilitate correct cleanup and extend equipment life.
Council approved the purchase by roll call. Staff will return any contract documents and financing details as required and will plan site work for a proper wash pad to support the new sweeper’s upkeep.
