A Booneville resident told the City Council on July 21 he is exploring an indoor cannabis consumption club in Ward 3 and asked how to pursue local approval. "I would like to possibly bring a business to the area... a spot where you could actually do indoor consumption," said Guy Lanfear during public comment.
Councilor Brad Wolterge told Lanfear the public comment period is limited to five minutes and advised a direct follow-up. Wolterge said the city updated ordinances related to marijuana use about a year ago and offered to email the resident the current text and expectations so the applicant could prepare a formal proposal. "If you start an email exchange, I can get you the newest ordinances," Wolterge said.
Wolterge and other council members noted several constraints: property-owner and business-owner consent would be required for indoor consumption under the city's framework, zoning and state statutes would limit what the city can permit, and additional regulatory detail may be needed before a formal application is placed on a council agenda. No formal application or council vote occurred at the July 21 meeting.
