The Hobbs City Commission on a unanimous vote approved a restaurant B liquor license for Altos Jalisco LLC, doing business as Altos Jalisco, for premises at 408 West Bender Boulevard in Hobbs, New Mexico.
At a public hearing, the applicant, Luis Fernando Hernandez, testified he had received preliminary approval from the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department and that the proposed license would allow sale of beer, wine and spirits for on-premises consumption. Hernandez was sworn and interpreted by Hector Bridal during the hearing.
The city clerk noted notice of the hearing was published in the Hobbs News-Sun on July 3 and July 17. Commission staff confirmed the location is in Hobbs and that Hobbs does not regulate land use by zoning. Commissioners also asked whether the location was within 300 feet of a church, school or military installation; the interpreter responded, “Not a school, but a daycare,” when asked about nearby childcare. Hernandez said he had not received any opposition and that a letter in support had been submitted by the owner of ABC and Friends Schoolhouse.
Commissioners moved and seconded approval. During the roll call, Commissioners Smith, Mills, Fields, Penick and Girth and Mayor Pro Tem Calderon voted yes and the motion passed.
The license approved is a restaurant B liquor license, which permits sale of beer, wine and spirits for consumption on the premises only. The commission did not record objections and no additional conditions were placed on the approval at the hearing.
The applicant thanked the commission after the vote and the clerk closed the item.
