The City Commission on June 2 adopted Resolution No. 7626 to identify municipal officers to appear on the regular local election ballot on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025, and to notify the Lee County Clerk of the offices to be filled.
Jan Fletcher, city clerk, told the commission that the city opted into the Regular Local Election Act in 2023 and that the Nov. 4, 2025 consolidated election will be administered by Lee County. Fletcher said the city must give written notice to the county of the offices to be filled and recommended adopting a resolution so the action would be in the city record.
Nut graf: the resolution places one mayor (four‑year term, elected at large) and three commissioners (Districts 1–3, each four‑year terms) on the November ballot; candidate filing day is Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025, with a write‑in filing day on Sept. 2 and absentee ballots starting Oct. 7.
Fletcher told the commission that early in‑person voting in Hobbs will start Saturday, Oct. 18, and that the Lee County Clerk’s Office in Lovington will handle filings (9 a.m.–5 p.m. on filing day). She said the county covers election costs and is reimbursed by the state; the city will assist as needed but will not administer the election directly.
Action: Commissioner Penick moved to approve Resolution 7626; Commissioner Calderon seconded. Miss Fletcher called the roll and the commission voted to approve the resolution.
Ending: Staff will send formal notice to the Lee County Clerk and update the city elections webpage and candidate materials.
