Public notices and recognitions - Earth Day cleanup: Evelyn Nunez invited residents to a community cleanup at Washington Park at 4 p.m. on the day following the meeting; organizers said additional cleanup events and a free-dumpster day are planned in May. - Veteran tax-exemption assistance: Freddie Solis Littlejohn, the state Department of Veterans Services veteran service officer in the Hobbs area, announced that the office is processing certificates for a newly expanded tax exemption based on disability rating and reminded veterans that applications require a DD-214, photo ID and a disability-rating letter where applicable. He said his office handles veterans across the state and gave office hours and a phone number for assistance. - Library service recognition: Carolina Green was honored for 25 years on the Hobbs Public Library board and for a combined 50 years of service in education and library work; the commission presented a city recognition coin. - Child and Family Services: Patricia Grovey Evans, founder and executive director of Child and Family Services Inc., marked the organization’s 40th anniversary and invited the commission to an Education Champion luncheon on April 29.
City announcements City Manager Gomez reminded residents that the application deadline for an honorary brick on the Veterans Memorial Path of Freedom is April 28 and noted there is no cost for qualifying Lee County veterans. He also announced the Hobbs Code Enforcement Division has earned agency accreditation from the American Association of Code Enforcement — the first agency in New Mexico and the twelfth nationally to receive that accreditation — and said a plaque and formal presentation are forthcoming.
