City Engineer Anthony Hendry described the project: a 30‑by‑100‑foot enclosed three‑sided building to protect PVC pipe, fire hydrants and other materials (low bid $126,006.59), and a 70‑by‑100‑foot open‑sided heavy-equipment shade structure to store tanker trailers, conveyor trailers, side-dump trailers, a tractor‑truck and a generator trailer (bid $164,005.75 as presented). Hendry said neither structure would have an interior floor because the site already has chip‑seal and asphalt surfaces; both will include soffit or interior lining to deter pigeons and birds.
Commissioner Fields moved to approve the contract; Commissioner Calderon seconded. The roll call recorded Commissioners Smith, Mills, Fields, Calderon, Pinnock and Girth and Mayor Cobb voting yes; the motion carried.
Why this matters: the structures will protect long‑lead and heavy equipment from weather exposure, which staff said reduces damage and preserves inventory for utility operations.
The contract award includes no floor work and relies on existing paved surfaces; staff said the buildings are intended for storage and protection rather than vehicle maintenance.
