The City Commission approved Resolution 7590 on Feb. 18 to construct a new municipal sewer lift station to serve the Lee County Regional Airport. The Lee County Commission previously committed $750,000 toward the project, city staff said.
Assistant City Manager Todd Randall briefed commissioners on the background: the city and county entered a 2022 memorandum of understanding to extend water and sewer service to the airport; airport master planning and subsequent procurement led to the lift station design. Randall said the lift station is approximately 24 feet deep and will include electrical and SCADA (remote monitoring) components to allow communication with the city's wastewater treatment operations. He described an implementation approach that would bring a basic, operable lift station online first and add the tower/radio/SCADA communications to match treatment-plant systems in a follow-up phase.
Budget and billing: Randall noted about $470,000 remains in the project fund from prior work and that the county's contribution will help cover construction. He also noted that once sewer service begins, the airport's sewer bills will reflect water and sewer charges, which will offset capital and operating costs over time.
Vote: The motion to approve Resolution 7590 passed unanimously; the motion and second were recorded and all commissioners and the mayor voted yes.
Ending: Staff said the committee will bid the lift station, complete the basic station for immediate use, and later add SCADA integration to match the treatment plant's systems.
