Aldermen approve L'Arche amendment to add elevator for ADA access at Litzinger Road facility

Brentwood’s board on July 21 approved an amendment to the site-development plan and conditional-use permit for L’Arche, allowing the nonprofit to add an elevator inside its building at 9445 Litzinger Road to improve accessibility for its adult day-care and group-home services (Bill 65-65).
Sam Barrett spoke for L’Arche in the absence of Paula Keon and explained the elevator will help make interior spaces ADA-accessible so the organization can expand services such as respite care for people with mobility needs. Barrett said the elevator will enable people using wheelchairs or walkers to access upper-floor spaces for programming and short-term stays.
Aldermen asked questions about project timing and scope; Alderman Tice announced on the record she would abstain because she serves on L’Arche’s board. With that abstention noted, the board approved the amendment on a roll-call vote and perfected the bill that night.
Staff indicated the amendment modifies the prior ordinance that allowed the adult day-care and group-home uses and that building permits and inspections will follow for construction of the elevator. The ordinance was perfected the same evening and will be enacted by standard ordinance schedule.
