The mayor summarized community events and sustainability efforts planned for September and early October, including goats to manage vegetation at Memorial Park, a Deer Creek cleanup, the Brentwood Days festival Sept. 19–20 and the Brentwood Fire Department open house Oct. 4.
The mayor said goats will be used in a fenced area at Memorial Park for roughly the month as an alternative to mechanical mowing. The city is also organizing a one-day Deer Creek cleanup where volunteers will remove debris such as tires and concrete to improve flow and reduce flood risk during heavy rains. The mayor directed residents to the city’s parks and recreation web page for event schedules.
Brentwood Days is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 19, and Saturday, Sept. 20. The mayor said the festival opens Friday evening and continues Saturday with a parade at noon that concludes at Brentwood Sports Park; activities resume afterward and the weekend will close with a drone show instead of fireworks. The Brentwood Fire Department open house is scheduled for Oct. 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
During mayor and alderman reports the council also acknowledged Kelly, a longtime city employee, who is retiring; aldermen and staff offered thanks for her service.
