Maplewood staff told the City Council on May 7 that a revised sewer-lateral policy and application will be included in the packet for the council—s next regular meeting and described budget assumptions for clearing a backlog and launching a new program.
"You'll see a resolution, a revised policy, and a draft application coming to you as part of the meeting packet for next Tuesday so that you can approve what we previously discussed," the presenter said. Staff said the budget numbers displayed at the work session reflect anticipated costs and revenue for both clearing the backlog of work and ongoing program revenue.
Council members had previously discussed the sewer-lateral program in multiple meetings; at this session staff said they will revisit program assumptions on an annual basis during the budget cycle to monitor whether the approach is working and to tweak revenues and appropriations as needed. "We'll revisit it for the first couple of years on an annual basis during budget period just to see this is And it's working," the staff member said.
No formal approval occurred at the work session; staff will bring the revised policy and application to the council for formal consideration at the next regular meeting.
