The Greene County Board of Commissioners on July 3 authorized the board president to sign a Letter of Map Change/Letter of Map Revision (LOMC/LOMR) application related to a proposed bridge in the Cornerstone South development that county staff said would raise flood levels by as much as one foot.

County staff told commissioners the bridge design was discussed at previous work sessions and that alternative bridge methods that would avoid raising the flood level were considered but were prohibitively expensive for the developer. "So we could have kept the flood level where it was, but it was, way too costly," staff said, adding that without the bridge design change the developer would have left two dead ends in the development.

The action authorizes the county president to sign the application submitted to federal mapping authorities to revise the flood maps for the area so the developer can proceed. The board voted to authorize the signature; the motion passed with recorded "Aye" votes from commissioners present.

Staff emphasized that the LOMR is an administrative step to update official flood maps to reflect the constructed bridge and that the county had previously reviewed design alternatives in work sessions. Commissioners did not direct additional conditions or studies as part of the authorization during the public meeting.

The authorization allows the developer to pursue the approved bridge plan and for the county to transmit the map-change request to the relevant mapping authority.
