Olivette begins public comment period for proposed building code updates; council expects June readings

City staff told the Olivette City Council on March 25 that a public comment period opened March 21 on proposed updates to the city’s building codes, with the goal of bringing a bill to council for first reading in June and a second reading on June 24 to allow the changes to become effective July 1.
The city manager said staff is collecting comments and that building-code reference books are available at city hall for review. Planning Department staffer Carlos presented the proposal earlier and the matter has been discussed at recent Planning Community Design Commission (PCDC) meetings, the manager said.
Council members were informed that the formal adoption process requires the public-comment period before the council can adopt final language. No formal vote occurred at the March 25 meeting; staff indicated they would return to council with the ordinance language for first reading in June and second reading on June 24 if the schedule holds.
The city manager encouraged residents to review the proposed code changes and submit comments during the open period; the meeting packet contains links and staff contact information.
