The council on July 8 reviewed a special-permit request from Fisher Rosemont Systems, a subsidiary of Emerson, to allow outdoor storage of metal containers at 9315 Olive Boulevard. Carlos Trejo, director of planning and community development, told the council the company has requested space for containers at the rear of a large industrial parcel and that similar outdoor storage already exists on neighboring properties. "They requested 4," Trejo said of the initial request, adding that commission discussion authorized flexibility to increase that number over time "not to exceed 8" spaces on the parcel. Trejo said the containers would be staged on the ground, loaded, shipped off and replaced as needed rather than permanently affixed. He described the parcel as large and well screened from Olive Boulevard and said fire-marshaled access had been reviewed. The request is zoned LID (light industrial district). Trejo said the planning commission views the use as compatible with the location and that the council will hold a public hearing at the next meeting and consider second reading on July 22. No final permit was granted on July 8. Council members asked whether the containers would be permanent, where they would sit relative to the street and whether traffic and fire access were adequate; Trejo answered that the storage area would be toward the back of the site, not visible from Olive Boulevard, and that the fire marshal had verified access. The council did not vote on the special permit at the July 8 meeting; staff will present the formal public-hearing record and recommended conditions at the next meeting.
