Parks staff told the commission Aug. 20 that youth soccer play begins shortly with about 1,100 registered participants and that games will be concentrated at Worsen and Stacy parks because the Fifth Grade Center parking lot is under construction.
The department said it has added 15-minute buffers between Saturday games to manage field turnover and that Saturday schedules are expected to run into the afternoon, potentially until about 4 p.m. Staff asked the commission to help promote carpooling and to encourage families to arrive closer to game times to reduce early congestion in parking areas. The Parks Foundation donated soccer goals to help offset equipment needs; staff cautioned that a nationwide parts shortage means some goal deliveries may not arrive until September.
Ending: Staff said they will continue to coordinate field assignments and will let the commission know if the equipment delivery schedule requires further operational changes.
