The board on Aug. 5 formally introduced several new city employees and received routine reports from parks and public works staff.
New hires announced included David Holt (building inspector, start date June 30), Timothy Daniels (public works, start date July 7), Casey Bell (public works), and a start‑date listing for Bridal Price of July 21. Staff noted the city briefly reached full staffing but had a subsequent resignation in the water department; one open water position has left the department short and affected locate work.
Public works updates: Guy Jeevers, public works director, reported culvert replacement and curb‑and‑gutter work on Dogwood Drive, an 8‑inch water‑main repair by Well 8, a 6‑inch water main repair on Chantilly Court, six shutoff repairs and four private service calls. He said crews completed pressure testing and planned paving near the school as weather permits.
Parks and grounds: Justin Knowles reported the Morgan Park playground fence installation is complete, parking‑lot light work remains, and the park is open. Grounds crews continued brush removal along the disc golf course, performed broad‑leaf weed spraying and handled nine pavilion rentals in June. Knowles also noted an upcoming concert (Draw STL) at Dyer Park from 7 to 9 p.m.
Retention and heat concerns: Staff and aldermen acknowledged recent resignations and heat’s toll on crew retention. An alderman and staff thanked crews for working through extreme heat and emphasized providing hydration and shade where possible.
No formal board action was required for personnel introductions or routine maintenance updates.
