The Board of Aldermen of the City of Harrisonville on an affirmative roll call adopted Ordinance 3743, levying a total property tax rate of 0.6085 for the 2025 tax year. The board opened a public hearing on the levy, heard a staff explanation and closed the hearing before moving the ordinance through readings and final passage.
City staff member Jeremy told the board staff had received the pro forma from the state auditor's office via the county and that the city is not allowed to increase the levy beyond the state auditor's calculation. "The actual levy did is going down this year based on higher assessments," Jeremy said, summarizing the calculation and inviting questions. There were no public speakers during the hearing.
After the hearing, the board considered Council Bill 51 (the administrative ordinance levying the tax). Alderman Mills moved to suspend the rules and advance the bill to second reading; Alderman Davidson seconded. On subsequent roll calls the aldermen voted in favor of suspending the rules and of final passage. The city clerk recorded all present voting "Aye." The ordinance was identified in the meeting record as Ordinance 3743.
According to the ordinance text read at the meeting, the levy covers the general municipal operating levy and a special parks tax for a combined total of 0.6085. Jeremy explained the calculation and said staff would take follow-up questions if needed. No public comments were recorded during the hearing.
