Kearney — At the start of the 2025–26 legislative session on May 5, the Board of Aldermen administered the oath of office to newly seated members Jerry Spencer and Dan Holt, elected Dan Holt as board president for a one-year term and named board representatives to standing commissions.
City Clerk and City Administrator administered the oath to Jerry Spencer and Dan Holt. The oath, taken in the council chamber, commits each new alderman to uphold the constitutions of the United States and the state of Missouri, to abide by laws affecting fourth-class cities and to "faithfully demean myself in office."
After the swearing-in, Mayor Randy Pogue opened nominations for board president. Alderman Ashton King nominated Dan Holt; the board approved Holt as board president for a one-year term by unanimous vote.
The board then nominated and confirmed David Lehman as the board representative to the Planning and Zoning Commission for one year. Mayor Pogue nominated Ashton King as the city’s representative to the parks board; the board approved King’s appointment by unanimous vote.
The meeting included a plaque presentation honoring outgoing Alderman Kathy Barger for six years of service; Alderman Spencer and other members offered brief remarks welcoming returning members and thanking Barger.
