The Kearney Planning and Zoning Commission voted to recommend that the Board of Aldermen approve vacating part of a city drainage easement on Lot 4 Shops at Greenfield and accept a replacement drainage and utility easement where the developer intends to relocate an existing storm sewer pipe.
Staff said GJN Development (applicant represented by Jerry Seiler) proposed relocating the storm sewer that currently runs through the middle of the lot to accommodate construction of a new commercial building. The application package included a petition to vacate the drainage easement and a proposed replacement easement that matches the new storm‑sewer alignment. Staff recommended approval so the applicant can proceed toward final site plan approval and a building permit.
The commission opened the item for public comment and heard none. Commissioners confirmed the easement would remain on the property in a different location and that the replacement easement would be recorded so the city retains drainage control. A motion that the commission recommend the Board of Aldermen approve the vacation and dedication, as recommended by staff, passed on a voice vote.
