County to accept national Purdue Pharma settlement; administrator authorized to cast ballot

Greene County commissioners voted Aug. 28 to accept the national settlement plan resolving claims against Purdue Pharma and certain Sackler family interests and authorized the county administrator to cast the county’s ballot in favor of the plan.
County staff told the board the original settlement changed after Purdue Pharma filed for bankruptcy and that a new plan had been developed. The county prosecutor reviewed the agreement and recommended remaining in the plan rather than pursuing independent litigation.
A motion to approve the new national opioid settlement plan, including authorization for the county administrator to vote to accept the plan, was moved, seconded and approved.
