County raises animal-control counter fees; dog tags unchanged

Greene County commissioners voted Aug. 28 to revise animal-control counter fees and modestly increase the per-capita fee charged to municipalities the county serves.
County staff told the board that the animal-control unit operates as an enterprise fund and receives no general-fund support. “We were no longer covering all of our obligations,” a staff member said, citing inflationary pressure on salaries, veterinary services and supplies.
The staff presentation said the proposed fee changes are projected to bring the program to break-even for the current fiscal year. The staff also noted that dog-tag fees were not increased; dog tags will remain at the existing price while other counter fees and the per-capita municipal fee will rise.
A commissioner moved and the board approved the fee revisions.
