Alderman Gardner, speaking for the Public Safety Committee, said the city is exploring a potential citywide crossing guard program and that a committee meeting included council members, school board officials and district administrators. “Following the presentation from the crossing guard from crossing guard inc there was lengthy discussion regarding potential share costs, liability, and the logistics of the program between the city council, school board members, superintendents, and school admin staff from surrounding school districts,” Gardner said.
Representatives from the participating school districts requested their legal teams review the proposal. Gardner said the council likewise wants city attorneys to review the matter and that staff will “draft a potential intergovernmental agreement between the city and the school districts.”
The discussion did not produce a formal agreement or budget appropriation at the meeting; councilmembers described the next step as legal review and drafting of an intergovernmental agreement that would outline cost-sharing, liability and operational responsibilities if the program proceeds.
