Mayor Newell said Calumet City is in the final stages of its 2025 budget process and announced a public hearing will be held Monday with the council looking to adopt the budget by the following Wednesday. “We are in our final stages of our budget process. We have a meeting, and I'm sure, Deputy Mayor Williams will let it let everyone know as well. We have our public hearing on Monday, and we're looking to pass the city budget, by Wednesday of next week,” Newell said.
The council's finance committee reported it had met with representatives from 18 departments during consecutive sessions the prior week and reminded the public that the appropriation ordinance is available for review. “For the public, the appropriation ordinance is posted downstairs by law,” Alderman Williams said.
The council scheduled an additional budget meeting for Monday, July 28, at 6 p.m., and invited public attendance. Officials did not state the adopted budget total or specific line-item changes at the meeting; those details are contained in the posted appropriation ordinance.
No formal budget adoption vote occurred at the meeting; council members described next week’s public hearing and subsequent votes as the next steps in the process.
Council members encouraged residents to review the posted appropriation ordinance at the clerk’s office ahead of the hearing.
