Lucas County honors Phil Kaczynski for more than 31 years of building-department service

The Lucas County Board of Commissioners opened its Sept. 9 meeting by recognizing Phil Kaczynski for more than 31 years of service in the county's building-related work. Commissioners and county staff praised Kaczynski's technical expertise, institutional knowledge and longtime role in keeping projects moving through permitting and inspections.
Commissioners noted that Kaczynski served as acting chief building official from 2010 to early 2015 during a period of staffing stress, and credited him with maintaining department operations through difficult economic years. Speakers said he combined field experience, apprenticeship training and ongoing education in electrical and building codes, and that his knowledge helped staff, contractors and the public navigate Ohio Revised Code changes affecting building regulations.
Commissioners and staff asked Kaczynski to join them at the podium for a brief presentation and family photos. They wished him well in retirement and asked him to enjoy time with family and grandchildren. The recognition item did not include formal board action beyond the presentation; no funding or personnel change resulted from the recognition itself.
