The Finance Committee approved two procurement items: the purchase of a high‑volume press copier and a four‑year agreement for VMware licensing and vendor support for the county’s virtual server environment.
Daniel Brand of the Department of Finance and Budget said the county seeks to purchase a ComDoc Versant 280 press copier under cooperative purchasing pricing for $131,943, replacing equipment at the end of a 60‑month lease and using the Internal Lease Fund. He said the county has an intergovernmental arrangement with the City of Akron to share half the cost. “This is a cooperative purchasing agreement with the Qualis and an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Akron to pay half,” Brand said.
The committee also approved a four‑year professional services contract with Advise Technologies LLC for VMware licensing updates and vendor support for the county’s vSphere virtualization environment, for the period 07/31/2025–07/30/2029, in an amount not to exceed $237,968.08. Stephen Byrne of the Office of Information Technology said the county expects vendor pricing pressure following Broadcom’s acquisition of VMware and is pursuing a four‑year deal while evaluating alternatives. “We fully expect in the future for these prices to jump. So we have a 4 year deal that we're trying to latch on to. We are also looking at alternatives,” Byrne said.
Both procurement items were approved by committee voice votes and introduced as emergency legislation in the session record.
