The Pet Overpopulation Advisory Council approved rules for a statewide pet-stamp photo contest and discussed website upgrades to sell the stamps online. At the Sept. 9 meeting, the council voted to charge $15 for the initial contest entry and $5 for each additional photo. Jeff Dawson, chair of the Pet Overpopulation Advisory Council, proposed the $15 entry fee and Jonathan Henriques, Rescue Alliance representative, supported a structure that charges a smaller fee for additional entries. Dawson later put the fee structure into a formal motion that carried. Why it matters: the contest and subsequent stamp sales are a council fundraising activity; online sales will increase access beyond in-person events. Members also discussed a roughly $1,000 vendor invoice to revamp the council website and add a direct link where consumers can buy commemorative stamps. Dawson said the vendor “cut it in half” on payment and that the site will include an online purchase link for stamps, which the chair described as “wonderful.” The council agreed to pay part of the vendor fee now and the balance later. The contest will be open to entries nationwide and council members suggested options for submitting multiple photos while keeping the process simple. The council did not set a limit on total submissions but approved the initial-plus-additional pricing structure.
